Mark draws on his extensive knowledge and skills to help provide comprehensive therapeutic support and he specialises in working with adults.

Mark is a non-judgemental, empathic and actively curious therapist who is interested in your unique life story. He encourages his clients to explore their concerns and is interested to understand how they cope or manage with their difficulties whilst reflecting on any underlying or contributing factors. The aim of this is to help enable insight and self-awareness to grow which may create a platform for personal growth and change. Mark aims to support clients in exploring and developing on their own inner strengths and internal capacities which may help to facilitate behavioural change. He is committed to helping his clients discover their own individual ways to manage with difficulty as it arises in their life, work and relationships.

Mark initially establishes each client’s own personal goals or aims for counselling and tailor’s and adapts sessions to his clients’ therapeutic needs. Mark can draw on a range of models of therapy including: Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Person Centred and Mentalisation Based Therapy. Mark uses his broad range of training and experience to provide an integrated, client-focused counselling approach.

The Psychodynamic approach is a “talk therapy” treatment and has a research base indicating its efficacy across a range of mental health issues. It aims to enable you to better understand the connections between your current problem patterns of relating and behaviour and your current feelings of anxiety and/or depression in order to help facilitate shifts in functioning to occur.

Research has identified there are seven features that distinguishes psychodynamic therapy as an approach;

·       Focus on affect (your feelings, thoughts, ideas and beliefs) and expression of emotion
·       Focus on your relationships
·       Identify recurring themes and patterns in your life
·       Exploration of your individual coping strategies and defensive behaviours
·       Discussion of past experience
·       Explore your experience of therapy
·       Exploration of your wishes, dreams and beliefs

In his private practice Mark provides counselling or longer-term therapy in the Brisbane CBD a short walk from Central Station.

You can contact Mark on 0410 035 337 to arrange a free 15-30 minute phone consult or press the email button on the right to send him a message.
