Life is filled with detours and dead ends, trials and challenges of every kind. Each of us has likely had times when distress, anguish and despair almost consumed us. – Russell.M.Nelson
We can experience distress in many ways…in intense feelings, unhelpful thoughts and belief patterns, compulsive reactions and behaviours, dreams and flashbacks, and in our general physical state of being. This distress can intrude into our lives, in our work and relationships, and in our everyday functioning.
‘Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it’ – Brene Brown
The therapy journey can help us understand and manage our distress through understanding how the past has stayed alive in our current experience. It is no longer about what happened, it is how it lives on in parts of ourselves, in our mind and body, in our lives…
In my therapy approach, I offer you a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic environment that allows you the space to navigate your concerns and difficulties with gentle curiosity and mindfulness. We can work together to validate and hold a safe space for your internal needs and distress, with the goal of building self understanding, trust and compassion, and to bring a sense of internal safety, coherence and self acceptance.
My therapeutic approach encompasses a brain, mind and body-centred model of treatment to treat distress. I use an eclectic combination of interventions including:
trauma and attachment-informed approach
insight-oriented therapy
supportive counseling
psychoeducation
positive psychology, schema therapy, and cognitive-behavioural and mindfulness techniques
I provide psychological support to adults and adolescents who are experiencing symptoms of distress including:
anxiety, depression and hyper-vigilance
adjustment and stress
anger and addiction behaviours
interpersonal and relationship problems
low self-esteem and motivation issues
stress, PTSD and childhood trauma.
A short, no-obligation phone conversation with you can be a good place to start. I welcome you to contact me via phone or email to discuss your needs.
