Counselling or Psychotherapy?

Both counselling and psychotherapy offer evidence-based interventions to help people develop healthier, more effective habits. Counselling tends to be more short term, and focuses on helping you resolve issues while giving you essential tools to use in your life to help manage mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression.

Psychotherapy helps to resolve more deeply embedded problems which are making areas of your life, such as relationships, career and your sense of self, difficult to manage. There are several approaches to psychotherapy — including cognitive-behavioural, interpersonal, body-oriented, emotion-focused and other kinds of talk therapy — that help individuals work through what has brought them to therapy. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process based on the relationship between an individual and their psychotherapist. Grounded in dialogue, it provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who’s objective, neutral, nonjudgmental and compassionate. We will work together to identify, manage and resolve the issues which have brought you to therapy with the goal of making lasting change.

Jacqui Snooks

I am a psychotherapist and counsellor and the founder and Clinical Director of Haven Counselling and Psychotherapy. I offer a safe and confidential space to help you work through and resolve the issues you are facing which bring you to therapy. Working collaboratively, I help my clients establish more balance, connection, understanding and a greater sense of well-being in their lives. I specialise in helping people manage a range of issues including: relationship breakdowns, loss, depression, trauma, PTSD, addictions, stress and anxiety. Work with me to discover the tools needed to live a more satisfying life right now.
I am an integrative psychotherapist which means I use a combination of mind, body and emotion-oriented interventions while targeting your specific needs. I use an extensive range of tools to help clients work on their symptoms outside of the therapy room. I also bring 25 years of mindfulness practice and teaching experience to my therapy work.

Many people have never experienced the safety of an unconditionally accepting space to work through their issues. My life was transformed by experiencing this myself, and I endeavour to pay it forward to the best of my ability. I can offer you the support you need to make important changes in your life.
