Counsellor in Black Hill, Victoria

Inner Reflections Counselling is a therapeutic counselling and psychotherapy service based in the historical goldfield city of Ballarat, Victoria.  We are a register NDIS provider and we provide specialist counselling and psychotherapy services and supports to adults and young people in the Ballarat area and surrounds that are either NDIS clients or general referral clients (None NDIS clients). Our practice is located in Black Hill, Ballarat where there is accessibility by buses, however we are only a short 15-minute walk from Ballarat’s CBD. Our practice is wheel accessible and has ample free street parking available.  We work with adults and young people providing a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities to help you work through issues in your life that are causing dysfunction and unbalance. We can help support you in working through your issues in a caring and empathetic space where you can feel comfortable respected and safe where you can discuss aspects of your life free from judgement and opinion. Our counsellors understand the therapeutic counselling environment and how it may initially create anxiety and fear, however the role of a counsellor is to be there with you all the way and address any fears you may have and to help put you mind at ease. Our counsellors are experienced and qualified therapists and registered members with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) which is the a professional organisation for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. Inner Reflections Counselling is also a registered NDIS approved provider offering evidence-based therapeutic individual counselling and psychotherapy services to NDIS clients in Ballarat and surrounding regions.

We work with a range of different modalities for different presentations, however Humanistic therapy is the foundation of our therapeutic approach  and these therapies approaches focus on a person’s self-growth that will eventually led to actualisation, inner strength, a healthier sense of self and to understand their feelings to help gain a sense of meaning in life.  A significant aspect to our therapeutic approach and the backbone of humanistic therapy is Person-Centred therapy, also known as client-centred therapy and this requires the authentic personal involvement between both client and therapist. Humanistic therapies requires the client to experience a genuine, non-judgmental and empathic bond with their counsellor by using open-ended responses, reflective listening, and tentative interpretations to give the client a safe setting in which to freely and fully express themselves.Humanistic therapies requires the client to experience a genuine, non-judgmental and empathic bond with their counsellor by using open-ended responses, reflective listening, and tentative interpretations to give the client a safe setting in which to freely and fully express themselves. We also use aspects of other Humanistic therapy approaches such as Gestalt Therapy which focuses on helping a person fully experience their present situation rather than going back in time to talk about past events. The aims of Gestalt therapy is to help the client gain self-awareness so that unresolved interpersonal issues can surface and the immediate needs can be met. We use a range of different therapeutic modalities such as solution focused and strengths based approaches to focus on the solution to the problem in the ‘here and now’ rather than delving into the past. Another significant approach we use is Behaviour therapies which includes (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT) and these approaches stand apart from insight-based therapies (such as psychoanalytic and humanistic therapy) because the goal is to teach clients new behaviors to minimise or eliminate problems, rather than digging deeply into their subconscious or uncovering repressed feelings. The basic premise of behavioural therapies are that the individual has learned behaviors that are problematic and maladaptive, and so he or she must learn new behaviors that are adaptive.  Whether we use humanistic, behavioural, motivational or emotionally focused therapy approaches, our primary focus in all therapies is the all important therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and the client and without the development of this connection and trust, no therapy is going to be successful.
