About My Practice
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. Anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties or past experiences can leave you feeling stuck, disconnected or unsure how to move forward. Counselling offers a safe, supportive space to better understand what is happening and develop new ways of responding.

My Approach
I use mindfulness-based and somatic psychotherapy to help you understand both your thoughts and your body’s responses. Rather than simply managing symptoms, we work together to explore the underlying patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

During sessions you will learn practical mindfulness skills that can help you respond more calmly to difficult emotions and situations. As we work together, we may also explore long-held beliefs such as “I’m not good enough” or “I don’t matter” and gently investigate where these patterns began. By bringing mindful awareness to both emotional and bodily experience, it is often possible to develop new perspectives and more helpful ways of relating to yourself.

Every session is tailored to your individual needs. I draw on evidence-informed approaches, including mindfulness and Hakomi somatic psychotherapy, to support lasting emotional growth and resilience.

Background
I have more than twenty years’ experience and training in mindfulness, meditation and counselling. I am Medicare accredited as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, allowing eligible clients to access Medicare rebates.

I completed specialist training in the mindfulness-based somatic psychotherapy of Hakomi and previously worked as a Senior Counsellor in a drug and alcohol service. These experiences, together with many years of mindfulness practice, shape a compassionate, practical and body-centred approach to counselling that supports meaningful and lasting change.

Ajay Hawkes

With over twenty years experience and training in mindfulness and mindfulness based therapies, I have spent my life exploring meditation and personal growth work. I have studied with teachers for whom I have the greatest respect and gratitude for their influence. I am a graduate of a two year training in the mindfulness based somatic psychotherapy of Hakomi. I have also been a Senior Counsellor at a drug and alcohol service. I bring the richness of this background to my counselling practice, offering powerful tools for change.
