These are hard times we are going through and they affect us all on several levels. Many of us are trying to manage deep anxiety, and depression is prevalent too. The mental health of the larger community is impacted in a number of ways as people struggle to make sense of a rapidly changing world. At a personal level, there is a deep unease not only about what is happening now but also about what the future may hold. We reach for hope.

My name is Barbara Churcher and I am a psychotherapist trained in Gestalt and psychodynamic approaches. I have been working in private practice for fifteen years now. For example, if you find you have lots of problems in your relationships, you want to understand yourself more, you want to grow and develop on every level, come and talk about it. These are great things to focus on.

You may need to work through the aftermath of trauma. This can occur at any time in life for many reasons. It may be through abuse: physical mental, emotional or sexual. Hard to talk about, so hard to bear, but we go at your pace.

Are you experiencing transition, big changes in your life? Change is part of the journey. Sometimes changes are positive but they don’t seem to feel good or the impact on yourself or others is hard to come to terms with. Or maybe they are the difficult changes that life inevitably brings. Let’s talk it through – see where you have some power or can find support.

I have a background in midwifery so understand the difficulties and losses that can be experienced during this time for both birth partners. If this is you and you are battling depression before or after birth, or struggling with the terrible impact of birth trauma, talking with me is a good place to start to find ways to put down this burden. Sometimes gaining an understanding of what happened and why helps a lot, or deeper work may be needed as we work out why you have been affected in this way. You might be a partner trying to manage your own feelings. It’s good to recognise that you need support too, a safe place to talk.

I work with couples who are having difficulties in their relationship and who want to resolve them, or who want to end their time together safely. If you are thinking about having children but are unsure about this, we can talk about that too. Or you may need help with parenting issues.
