Treatment Approach :

I am a clinical psychotherapist/counsellor, practicing in Manly, Sydney, and work with individuals, couples and families within a systemic framework. This is a holistic approach that recognises as humans, we are constantly struggling to be connected with others and yet have a need to retain our individuality. The world is a network of relationships/ systems and every individual is part of a system. How well does your system work?

The dilemma - how can I be a good partner/family member/friend/ colleague and be true to myself? It is often the emotional pressures we feel from this conflict- both within ourselves and from others, that can cause anxiety, depression, feelings of loss, isolation and disconnection within our relationships. Why don't my relationships work?

We all have automatic emotional reactions, which become our default positions when triggered under stressful conditions, that's just being human! Our behaviour becomes reactive, either aggressive or defensive and how we react is often a product of our family patterning.Every family is unique, just as each individual is unique.Family dynamics and responses have been learned consciously and unconsciously over many years, they are so automatic you can be unaware of the impact on yourself and others. Used in times of conflict or stress, these default positions can become destructive. Why do I feel so angry/disconnected?

This can increase the emotional intensity within relationships and create emotional, physical or psychological symptoms, such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, addictions, eating disorders and/or  other illnesses.

Why do I feel lost/have no purpose?

Therapy is a collaborative process, focusing on recognising your behavioural patterns and understanding what motivates/dictates your actions. Counselling can help  to improve your  ability to distinguish between feelings and thinking, and allow for greater personal choice. By developing/learning new skills to regulate your emotions, from a more objective stance, you will find you can resolve most issues without anger, distress or disconnection.

Individuals, couples or families, no matter what ages, can all benefit from the deeper self knowledge and  understanding of interpersonal dynamics, that therapy helps to promote. In a safe and exploratory environment, you can challenge yourself and achieve results in greater self esteem, confidence and improved relationships with partners, family and/or colleagues. A sense of happiness, peace and contentment often flow from there.
